Watershed Awareness using Technology and Environmental Research for Sustainability (WATERS)

The WATERS project is funded by the National Science Foundation’s ITEST (Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers) program. It is a collaborative project with Concord Consortium and Stroud Water Research Center.

The WATERS project focuses on a single, targeted goal: to build, deploy, and research a student-centered, universally accessible curriculum for learning water concepts and water career awareness in order to increase student interest in STEM careers by broadening the population of students who believe they have the ability and skills to pursue STEM careers.

WATERS is a ten lesson unit. For a summary of each of the ten lessons and their components, click here. For the publicly available lessons 1-5 and more information, click here.

WATERS makes use of technology developed in a previous NSF grant. Model My Watershed is a GIS-based online application that students use to simulate the way water moves through their watershed and how various conservation practices and land cover changes can affect this…

Watershed Modeling and Schoolyard Investigations

This video is hosted as part of the 2018 STEM for All Video Showcase: Transforming the Educational Landscape at: http://videohall.com/p/1083 Please join the conversation during this event May 14-May 21, 2018 The overall goal of the project is to develop an interdisciplinary, place-based, problem-based, hands-on set of resources, models and tools aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards to promote watershed stewardship, geospatial literacy and systems thinking.
