‘Ville Notice January 30, 2019

’Ville Notice | January 30, 2019

ALERTS FOR MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY FACULTY, STAFF AND STUDENTS

This afternoon and through the evening, an extremely cold weather system will move across Lancaster County and Millersville. Temperatures by midnight could be near zero, and by the morning commute hours on Thursday, the temperature could reach -5 F.  In addition it will be very windy which will make it feel even colder.

All students, faculty, staff and visitors to our campus should prepare for these extreme cold weather conditions. Remain indoors as much as possible.  When outside dress warmly, in layers, with a good winter coat.  Wear a hat, gloves and scarf to keep exposed areas of the body covered and protected. Use appropriate footwear that protects your feet from the cold and that provides traction.

Sidewalks, parking lots and other campus grounds will experience “thaw and freeze” conditions. Water from melting snow and ice today will refreeze quickly as the temperatures drop.  Ice melt will not be effective at temperatures as cold as those we are about to experience. Our facilities crews will do all they can to treat these surfaces, but icy spots will remain. Use extra caution when walking around campus. Be attentive to icy spots and avoid them and/or stick to surfaces coated with anti-skid material and ice melt to provide better traction.

Get the latest forecast from Millersville University’s Weather Information Center – http://www.atmos.millersville.edu/~wic/.
