Fall Plans

During this upcoming semester what I plan to do for all the professors who do not use power points that explains what was being learned in class, is to try and illustrate a message on a piece of notebook paper, explaining all that was learned during that class, as well as leaving notes  next to the picture that was just drawn. So for later reference I would not only look at my notes and see a beautiful artistic quick doodle and little notes to help summarize what goes on.

Due to having ADD its hard to remember what exactly the professor says especially when I end up being a few sentences behind so when I doodle it seems like it is easier to capture the image that the professor is painting in my head. Imagination can allow readers to have a better understanding of what is going on in any situation that is occurring around them.

Having the ability to draw and understand the professor in a new and fun way will keep the reader interested in what is going on and will always look forward to another class

What Is Cornell Note-taking

While taking Cornell notes in Dr. Corkery’s english class the main important thing to do while he speaks is write down the key notes on notebook paper or in your google docs for later use. Applying the Cornell notes to his course allows the student to have a better understanding of what exactly Dr. Corkery is talking about especially when he is speaking about something that happens within the book you’re reading.

Rewriting key points or events down it allows your mind to take in that information twice and actually take mental note of what you just read. One moment I was aware of my thought process was when after class I looked over my Cornell notes that have a special twist, I added visual notes next to the key events that I had thought of when we spoke about that topic. For example when reading “The Color of the Water” sometimes the narrator switches between two characters named James and his mother Ruth who both share stories that share the same meaning to a specific topic. To keep from confusing the two narrators I had drawn italicized words next to a picture of Ruth and normalized font in a speech bubble next to James to highlight the differences in the text, as well as a small note keeping note of what that visualization actually meant.

Looking at the visual representation of my Cornell notes also helps trigger my memory and piece the information of what I learned back together. Cornell Notes and Visual note-taking enhances my memory and strengthens my skills: visualizing, solving problems, memory, etc.

The Power of Reflection

Throughout the reading of “The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass” , by Frederick Douglass that was assigned to me from Dr. Corkery, I realized how hard and difficult that those assignments were. My way of fixing my problems was reflecting on what my problems which were not being able to focus on what I just read. The way to solve that is by taking notes on the chapter you just read. Take notes on whatever word that you didnt understand and make sure you look up the word. Doing this will allow you to broaden your knowledge.

How to Help Others

My learning experience is Mediation. What mediation is where people come to others in a private session and discuss about their personal issues in life with themselves or with a partner. The amount of time it takes for a mediation can to up to any amount of time depending on the situation, the amount of effort is important. The amount effort contributes to how well the outcome of the situation. Lack of effort will result in unsatisfactory.  Partaking in mediation can lead to difficult challenges as in the talk need ending in the proper way you expected it to go or facing a difficult topic of the situation that may be out of your control but if you tackle that challenge and ce the feeling ling better about themselves and leaving with a smile on their faces.
