Reflecting on note-taking

When I applied note taking while reading to Dr. Garcia and Dr. Corkery’s class. I thought note taking while reading really helped me for many different reasons. I would take notes on the things that I read that I thought would be really important to remember.  I could come back to see the notes that I thought were super important incase I forgot. As well as, when I didn’t understand something I would write it down to come back to make sure I understand when I came back.

Taking notes while reading helped me a lot when I was reading a book for English I could come back and look at the main ideas incase I forgot. I could also look back and use them in a writing assignment. I would also write something down if I did not understand what I was reading helped me a lot because I would not forget what I had forgotten and I knew where I could find it. I would also write down new words I did not know so I could look up what the word meant to make sure I understood the word.

My note taking method goes along with my strength as a learner because I always take notes while I read so I can make sure I understand what I am reading. It helps me incase I need to come back and look the main idea over.  I have always liked taking notes while reading because I can go back and look at something.

Reflecting on my new reading strategies

The strategies that worked for me was looking up words I did not know. After I looked up the words I did not know the wording made more sense. Another strategy that worked for me was underlining the main idea of what I was reading because I could go back and read the main idea of what I was reading incase I forgot. One of the strategies that did not work for me make a decision about meanings without being certain. That one was hard for me because if I did not understand one thing it was hard for me to understand everything I was reading.

An example of me using the strategy of looking up words I did not know was when I was reading Frederick Douglass in English. It helped me understand what I was reading. Another example of me using a strategy that worked for me was when I was underlining the main idea of Frederick Douglass when I read. So, when I was writing a paper on something I could go back and find the main idea right away. The strategy that did not work for me was making a decision without being certain. That didn’t work for me because if I didn’t understand one thing reading Frederick Douglass it was hard for me understanding everything else I was reading.

The strategies I will keep using are looking up words I did not know and underlining the main idea those really helped me understand what I was reading. If I did not use them I think it would be hard for me to understand what I was reading. A strategy I want to start using is think about prior knowledge before I start reading a book so I have an idea of what I already know.

How to play an instrument

When I was in middle school I play the clarinet. I had to practice a lot, which was fine because I was really responsible. I knew if I wanted to get better I had to practice. I was always learning something new. I thought it was really fun to learn a new stuff because I love to learn new things.

  • I started learning the easiest notes to play.
  • I had to practice those new notes to make sure I would not forget them.
  • I would play those notes in a song.
  • As I got better I learned newer and harder things.
  • I would play longer songs.
  • My school band played our first concert, since we learned enough notes to play a song people would like.
