A recap of the fall from Athletics!

Millersville University’s student-athletes adapted and excelled in the face of numerous challenges during the fall semester. Adjustments were made on the fields and courts. This meant safety protocols and closely monitored small-group practices without intercollegiate competition. Adjustments were also made in the classroom to great success. With the help a dedicated group of coaches and athletic administration, student-athletes excelled in the fall semester, producing a 3.20 department GPA. 173 student-athletes achieved Dean’s List status. That’s 39 percent of all student-athletes. Additionally, 47 Marauders earned a 4.0 GPA. We are on track to set a record with nearly 200 PSAC Scholar-Athletes at the end of the spring semester.

Our Marauder Way includes service, and our coaches, staff and student-athletes did just that in the fall semester with the annual adopt-a-family program. For the third year in a row, the department teamed up with Lancaster Recreation Commission to identify families in need at Thanksgiving. Even with many students and staff studying and working away from campus, five teams, the athletic administrators and athletic trainers adopted families, purchased food and necessities needed for Thanksgiving meals and delivered those items to the home. Millersville Athletics has partnered with Lancaster Rec for free sports clinics in the past as well, and this partnership has not only kept Millersville Athletics in the community, but it has also showed student-athletes the importance of being leaders and giving back.

A new head coach joined the Marauder family in the fall. Following the retirement of longtime women’s basketball coach Mary Fleig in the summer, Sharay Hall was named the program’s new head coach on Sept. 9. Coach Hall is a Philadelphia native and who was an All-PSAC East player for Millersville alum Jennifer Smith at Lock Haven University. She started her coaching career in the PSAC as well, working at Lock Haven and Clarion. Most recently, Coach Hall worked in the Division I ranks at Colgate with former Bloomsburg coach Bill Cleary. While Coach Hall’s first season was put on hold because of the pandemic, she’s been busy recruiting for the future and implementing her playing style with the current roster.
