VP Hazlett’s February Update

Spring is symbolic to newness and here at SAEM we are embracing the change! I’m excited to share news about a few developments “springing” up around the division.

I have created a Vice President’s Advisory Council which we are calling the VPAC. Members of the council are Naydia Bonner, Arianna Camel, Christopher Conway, Michael Davis, Dara Himes, Vivak Patel, Kirsten Scheck, Melissa Tineo, Eric Usbeck, Jas Whitlow and Allison Yarrow. The core purpose of this group of professionals is to provide me with fresh perspectives on matters that impact SAEM and the University. The VPAC held its second meeting in January and we discussed topics relating to social justice and inclusion, division and university communications, strategic planning, the PASSHE Redesign, staff wellness, mentoring, professional development, and gaining a stronger understanding of other university divisions. Stay tuned for great things to come from my VPAC!

Equally exciting, another new group has formed within SAEM that is comprised of all the administrative support staff in the division. The group met for the first time in January and voted to call themselves BASE which stands for Best Administrative Support Experts. I encouraged the formation of this group to show my appreciation for these important professionals and their tireless contributions to the University. I also wanted to open up two-way communications between the VP’s office and SAEM departments. BASE plans to meet quarterly for networking/relationship building and to discuss topics such as department highlights, upcoming events and calls for volunteers. They also plan to collaborate on trainings and staff development opportunities. I can’t wait to see what develops from these wonderful minds coming together.

Please continue to help SAEM tell our story! Submit your office updates here.
