VP Hazlett’s October Update

What a great start to the fall semester! It was wonderful to see so many of your faces at our State of the Division on September 20. To recap a few of our division highlights, SAEM is bringing our EPPIIC Values to life through the expansion of immersive living-learning communities in the residence halls. Housing and Residential Programs (HARP) developed strategic partnerships across campus that influence both recruitment and student success.

The Center for Student Involvement & Leadership’s (CSIL’s) Navigation Stations called on volunteers from multiple offices to roll out the red carpet for our students by bringing a helpful energy to the start of the semester.

CSIL, Athletics and legal counsel reviewed SB 1090, the Timothy Piazza Anti-hazing Bill, and created University policy and procedure to ensure compliance and educate our campus community on hazing.

Dr. Rita Smith Wade El Intercultural Center, HARP, and the School of Social Work sponsored Courageous Conversations, a series of presentations entitled “Meet Me at the Intersections”. Titles of these conversations were Race & Education, Race & Sexual Orientation, Race & Politics, Race & Religion, and Global Perspectives of Race. They were offered to students and employees.

Through the efforts of many offices within the Division: Admissions, Registrar’s Office, HARP, Enrollment Management, Student Accounts, Marketing and more… our fall 2019 enrollment at the freeze date was +45 compared to 2018. Only four schools experienced growth this year in the entire PASSHE System! Way to go team!!!

As your VP, I invite all of you to please take the time to submit suggestions and examples of the work your offices are doing by submitting via our SAEM Blog Submissions form. This will help us showcase our division and gives you an opportunity to shine.

Thank you to each and every one of you for your hard work and daily efforts to align with our vision to inspire, empower, and graduate every student!
