Staff Spotlight: Andrea Baker

Andrea Baker, Secretary in Counseling & Human Development

During her 13 years as a Millersville University staff member, Andrea has held several positions on campus in various offices but she considers her current role in the Office of Counseling & Human Development her home. Andrea comes from a marketing background where she helped with marketing and billing at a retirement home in the Lancaster community. When she decided to pursue a fresh working environment, Andrea returned to her roots here at Millersville where she is both an alum (c/o 1989) and the parent of an alum.

When asked what she loves most about her job, Andrea is passionate about the students she assists in her office. “I love the interaction with the students and the ability to serve them.” Andrea has a helpful, positive personality that she hopes can bring light, joy, or different perspective to those she often sees while they are experiencing difficult circumstances.

In speaking with Dr. Backels, Andrea’s director, it seems she accomplishes her goal; “Andrea genuinely cares about everyone she meets and is kind to everyone at all times. She never loses her cool!!” Dr. Backels also noted Andrea’s willingness and eagerness to assist with any project that comes their way while managing the office’s front desk, phone inquiries, visitors, and schedules for seven faculty members, a GA, an intern, and an advanced practicum student. Andrea juggles all this with a calm, efficient demeanor and a smile.

The division of SAEM is made better through the dedicated service and care that Andrea and others like her provide every day. We are so lucky to have her at Millersville. Andrea, you put the MU in ComMUnity!
