Educational Guru

Education plays a HUGE role in children’s lives. Kids are in school for more hours than they are out. Teachers end up being role models for students in their classrooms and sometimes for other teachers. In school, I had a lot of great teachers. The one teacher that made me want to be a teacher was probably Mrs. Keller. While I was in her class, my grandma had gotten sick and died when I had her as my teacher. She walked through a loss with me even though she didn’t know my grandma. In her class, she built relationships with her student and made it a community which made everyone feel safe and included.

I remember looking back at this moment and realizing for the first time that I wanted to be a teacher from her while looking at other situations with my teachers that made me want to be a teacher as well. Another teacher I always looked up to was Mrs. Fields. She was my fourth-grade teacher. She was one of my favorite teachers because she showed us love and support in the classroom. She would have monthly meetings with students during recess, asking how we were doing and any questions about our schoolwork.

My Kindergarten teacher was always someone I loved. When I was in fourth grade and found a love to teach, I was a helper and would go down to the kindergarten and read with a book buddy.

Another teacher that really made me appreciate teachers and want to become one was Mrs. Gantz. Mrs. Gantz was my field hockey coach in middle school, and then I did two weeks of observation in her classroom the other year. It was so cool to go back and see previous teachers that remembered me when I was in their classes. She really encouraged me to build trust with students in the classroom. Because once they trust you, you can reach and teach them.

Education plays a huge role in children’s lives. What you just read is just a little insight into who and what influenced me to want to be a teacher. While there are a lot of different educators that helped influence my way of thinking but these are the ones that stick out when I am thinking back to my younger years.
