Nearing The End

As we are nearing the end of the semester and our hydroponics system, we have come to realize alot of things. Other plants in our class have grown 4 times the size of ours while others are the same if not smaller. We thought our plants were possibly not getting enough light because of the location and angle of the system, but after asking the Professor she didnt think that would efect the plants as much as we thought.  The lettuce was planted almost 3 weeks after other people began planting. The radishes we tried growing in the begining had been replaced and the one radish we decided to leave has shown no improvment throughout the whole grow period. I know if we would have planted lettuce from the begining that we would have much larger plants for the final product of our system.

Day 14

We weren’t able to check how our hydroponic system is doing, because there was a class in there today and we didn’t want to disrupt their class. Therefore, we will have to wait until next class to see our plant’s growth.

Day 13

The plants still all look well, and they still appear to be healthy. Once again there really wasn’t anything we could do except add water to the hydroponic system because the water did appear to have been a little low. More pictures still to come.

Day 12

The plants are still growing well. Our plant closest to the bucket is bigger then the cup its in now. Not by much though but it still is coming out of the cup. Other then the growth we been seeing there really isn’t anything to say other then more pics to come.

Day 11

Our plants appear the same as they were the other day. There really wasn’t any change and all we did to it today was add some water to the bucket. They still appear to be healthy and we will wait till next time to see if there is any new growth.

Day 10

The new plants we planted really sprouted up and they are already as big as the radishes we had. They are doing really well and they look healthy. We still believe that the two remaining radishes we have are dead because we can’t tell if there has been any growth for two to three weeks.  That is why we planted the new plants and so far they are doing great, and we will continue to keep an eye on them.

Day 9

We still can’t tell if our plants are growing or not and they don’t appear to be very healthy. Our plant in the middle appears to to still look healthy so we hope that one will pull through, but we believe the one on the end is dead. Since we think it is dead we pulled it out and put new seeds in it and we also added seeds to the first one as well. Hopefully the new seeds will grow and the middle plant will live.

Day 8

Our plants still apear to be the same size, and we don’t know if they are still growing. Last time we measured the water in the bucket and we found that the over five days the water went down about three and a half inches. We put more water and nutrients in the bucket and we increased the angle at which the water flows down the pipe. We’ll wait and see what happens.

Day 7

The system is still the same, and two of the plants are still growing. The plant we had in the middle is dead, so we took it out and put new seeds in it. We also put more water in the bucket because it keeps going down fast, and we don’t want our pump overheating again. Other then having our one little plant die, everything is still growing well and we are still seeing improvements.

Day 5

Today we checked how our system was doing, and everything is still flowing well. Really we just wanted to make sure the water level stayed high, because we didn’t want to have our pump overheating again. All the water we added last time is just to help insure that the pump stayed submerged underwater. There will be more pics to come, and sorry you couldn’t comment before but we forgot to click on the box, but we went back and fixed that so you should be able to comment on any of the posts now.
