York County Libraries

Our Mission
The mission of the York County Libraries is to strengthen the York County community and to enrich individual lives by supplying information, providing recreation, promoting literacy, encouraging life-long learning, and serving as the hub of their communities.

Vision Statement
The York County Libraries are widely recognized at the information utility in York County. As ardent defenders of the First Amendment, we provide personal and friendly information services for everyone and are so widely used by the people of our community that it is simply perceived as common sense to do so. Highly entrepreneurial and customer focused, we leverage our current positive position to support our countywide growth strategy.

We are truly a countywide system with countywide resource for specialty programs. Through our planning and coordination, promotional effort and staff, and cross-promotion of each other’s services, we are able to provide a wide range of comprehensive services to all of the people of York County.

We offer services and programs that are truly outstanding and provide them in a safe environment. These services begin with infants and preschool children, within whom we nurture a love of reading, and continue through adulthood. Children often come to know us through our story times and summer reading programs. Some continue on to our after-school program, which provides food as well as supervised education assistance, homework help and schools support. Young adults are drawn into our libraries by our programs focused on them and their interests.

While continuously promoting literacy, we provide all customers with consumer information, hobby information, home-school support, community service information, a reader’s advisory service, career and job information and information on how to find answers for living and knowledge for life. Additionally, we conduct a wide range of education programs, reading clubs, book discussion groups and serve as a warehouse for local data and local history. We have a complete Spanish library with Spanish-speaking staff. We also exhibit artwork in our libraries and use the proceeds from its sale to support our work.

We are the leading providers of technology skills in our service area, selling our technology services to other non-profit organizations, business and libraries. We provide a complete range of business information. Local businesses and not-for-profits turn to us for their research, database, and video and teleconferencing needs.
