During We the People First Friday on December 5, experience the moving spoken-word performance “Be Still: A Mosaic Man’s Journey” by Ty Gant. While you’re there, check out the opening of a new art exhibit, “Gather and Release,” by Elaine Elledge, as well as a Holiday Makers’ Market and coat drive in the lobby! The event is free and open to the public.
• At 6:30 p.m. in Steinman Hall, step into the raw, unforgettable journey of a man who rose from brokenness to redemption—told through powerful poetry, vivid storytelling, and soul-deep reflection. “Be Still: A Mosaic Man’s Journey” is a one-of-a-kind spoken word performance by Ty Gant that chronicles the real-life transformation of an alcoholic—from his first drink to his rebirth in recovery. With every verse, audiences will walk beside him through DUI arrests, fatherhood, halfway houses, and the moment he saw a T-shirt in the mirror and read a message that would change everything: .llitƧ ɘ𐐒.
• From 6 to 8 p.m. in the Regitz Gallery, a reception will celebrate the opening of the exhibit “Gather and Release” by Harrisburg native and nationally recognized artist Elaine Elledge. Elledge’s paper quilts look at the cost and majesty of the embodied labors in motherhood, mirroring the wonder found in its imperfections. Many of the materials hint at the mundane and domestic, including cake collar sheeting, paper towel holders, and wax paper. The exhibit will be on display until January 30.
• In the Lyet Lobby from 5 to 9 p.m., a Holiday Makers’ Market showcases the crafts and wares of local artisans just in time for the gift-giving season. Treasures to be found include candles and wax melts, fine art prints, hand-painted wooden ornaments, hand-crafted jewelry, fused glass art, homemade soaps and lotions, crochet plushies, bespoke on-the-spot poetry, pottery, hot and cold flax packs, and 3D-printed items.
• During the Makers’ Market, the Millersville University National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) will once again be collecting donations of new or gently used coats and winter wear for the Lancaster Food Hub’s clothing bank.
Fill your cup with the arts as we head into the holiday season!
