Borough of Columbia

Develop comprehensive plans and programs for use of land and physical facilities of Columbia Borough.

-Understands the most recent edition- as amended- of the Code of the Borough of Columbia, especially the Administrative Legislation concerning General Provisions, Administration of Government, Board of Health, Official Map, Planning Commission; and especially the General Legislation concerning Alcoholic Beverages, Animals, Body Art Establishments, Demolition Permits, Existing Structures, Property Maintenance and Fire Prevention, Floodplain Management, Health and Sanitation, Historic District, Noise, Solid Waste, Storm Water Management, Subdivision and Land Development, Transient Retail Business, and Zoning.
-Reviews construction, alternations and repairs for zoning compliance and forwards those applications, as required by Borough Code, to the Zoning Board for approval. Acts as Zoning Officer with final decision authority
-Serves as the Borough’s liaison to various committees and boards as assigned.
-Conducts field building inspections of work in progress per the Borough Code.
-Explains codes or ordinance requirements to builders, architects, contractors and the public.
-Computes and collects fees for permits and hearings.
-Implements programs that may be required to ensure the preservation of property within the borough and the protection of the health and well-being of the citizens.
-Implements programs for the preservation of historic properties within the borough
-Accepts applications and reviews plans for construction, alterations and repairs for zoning compliance and forwards those applications, as required by Borough Code.
-Inspects properties with active Zoning/Building Permits in all stages of construction, alteration, and repair to ensure that work is done in accordance with the plans filed, and in compliance with governing zoning laws, and Borough codes.
-Assists developers, investors, design professionals, contractors, and the public to comply with code or ordinance requirements
-Responsible for the Borough’s storm water management program
-Serves on the workplace safety committee
