Communications Administrative Assistant

Mennonite Central Committee is seeking a Communications Administrative Assistant. This position is part of the MCC U.S. Communications Department and is responsible to the Director of Communications. This position is half time and is located in the Akron, Pa., office.

This person works closely with the Director to keep information and processes flowing within the department. The role involves frequent consultation with the Director and also independent action.


Administrative support 70%
Provide support for the Director of Communications,
– help monitor and respond to messages,
– handle logistics for virtual and in-person meetings,
– prepare agendas and take official notes at multiple meetings,
– organize and maintain paper and electronic files for the Director,
– arrange for translation of materials into Spanish (working with translators and proofreaders; not performing the translation),
– coordinate and carry out exhibit materials loan to others within the MCC system,
– monitor and approve some departmental budget interactions on behalf of the Director,
– other duties as assigned by the Director.

Technical and language 30%
-prepare materials (such as emails, documents and reports) on behalf of the Director,
– contribute to the Director’s communications through research and organization of information,
– proofread materials for the Director,
– other duties as assigned by the Director.

– Bachelor’s degree (preferably in communications) or equivalent experience
– Ability to work proactively and well with colleages and others
– Ability to handle multiple projects and emerging priorities at once with efficiency, effectiveness and collaborative spirit.
– Good computer skills, including knowledge of Outlook, Excel and Word.
– Good communications skills, including the ability to write business correspondence, reports and meeting notes.
– Good proofreading skills, including a high level of familiarity with Associated Press style.
– Commitment to high level of accuracy in all aspects of work.
– At least three years’ experience in similar work.
