The event, sponsored by the Borough, Millersville University and the Conestoga River Club, will begin at 6 p.m. and is open to the public free of charge.
“This grant allows us to build on the work we’re already doing to support student well-being and make an even greater impact through innovative education and prevention programs,” says Margo Thorwart.
Hollings scholars receive a two-year academic scholarship (up to $9,500 per year) for their junior and senior years, a 10-week paid summer internship opportunity at a NOAA facility and funding to participate in up to two national scientific conferences.
The annual competition, which Millersville has participated in since 2015, highlights creativity on a national level.
Millersville has established agreements with the School District of Lancaster, Penn Manor School District and La Academia Partnership Charter School so that their students may participate in the Dual Enrollment Scholars Academy, comprised of grant-funded summer workshops and dual credit courses taught by Millersville faculty at their schools and at the University.
Since her graduation, international studies alumna Karlee Rice has worked closely with students to expand their opportunities in study abroad programs and to make international education more inclusive and accessible for students of all backgrounds.
The two universities are building upon the success of the Millersville/Shippensburg Ed.D., the only joint doctoral program in Pennsylvania.

Peter Wenzel said it was an honor to compete in the Best Warrior Competition, but the camaraderie built throughout the experience is what truly made it worthwhile.
Emma Killmeyer, a biochemistry major, has been appointed as the student trustee to Millersville University’s Council of Trustees.
“It’s bigger than just planting trees, it’s about building a connected system that protects our waterways, supports ecosystems and provides lasting long-term benefits,” says Horst ’24.
