Super Bowl Sunday is Just Another Workday for This Grad

Meet this Millersville alumnus, lifelong Eagles fan and Philadelphia native that makes special content about the Eagles for NBC10.

Rob Kuestner is a proud graduate of Millersville University. In fact, when he donned MU gear to attend an Eagles press conference, he even caught the eye of the team’s head coach, Nick Sirianni. Sirianni was a former assistant football coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a fellow PASSHE school.

Why was Kuestner at that Eagles press conference? He’s worked as the NBC 10 senior Eagles and special projects producer for eight years, originally beginning his career at Comcast SportsNet (now called NBC Sports Philadelphia). “There is no typical day,” shares Kuestner, who grew up in Philadelphia and rooted for the Eagles as a kid. “That’s why I do this job.”

While no two days on the job are the same, Kuestner spends his time creating, writing, producing and editing stories on the team that’s heading to the Super Bowl once again on February 12. He’s produced hundreds of stories on the Eagles over the years ranging from sweet to serious and everything in between.

The story I’m most proud of is the story of when Jalen Hurts met with the family of Nicolas Elizalde, the 14-year-old from Roxborough High School who was killed in a mass shooting,” he says. “I asked him about the meeting. Jalen talked at length about how deeply it moved him that his play would provide just a bit of comfort to a family navigating the worst tragedy of his life. He said he and his teammates feel so compelled to give back to fans because “It’s a Philly Thing.” So, I followed up with the Elizalde family before the NFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Giants and interviewed Nic’s Mom and grandmom.” The result, he says, “was truly powerful and really important.”

The best part of his job? Storytelling. “It’s far too often a lost art in a social media and podcast world,” says Kuestner. “Visual storytelling is the best part.” According to Kuestner, we can expect some exciting stories on the Eagles during Super Bowl week. “Next Friday, we are live from Arizona from an Eagles bar in Tempe and next Sunday, Super Bowl Sunday, we have a one-of-a-kind look back on the best regular season and playoff run in Eagles team history.”

Kuestner, who graduated from MU in 1995 with a degree in English journalism, remembers his time at the ‘Ville fondly. While on campus, he served as an editor in various roles with the Snapper. “My greatest achievement at the Snapper was convincing the powers that be to print the first color edition of the paper,” he shares. Kuestner says the most valuable part of his education at Millersville University was the opportunity to take part in a little bit of everything. “The world has changed a lot since 1995,” he says. “I was able to do things at MU that I couldn’t have done at other schools where there was big competition. At MU, I had a chance to try everything. I was an editor for the school newspaper, worked for Lancaster Newspapers, hosted a sports show on WIXQ and more.” He even gave current Millersville students this piece of advice: “To the undergrads, I can’t stress how important making connections is to your future success. Take every route you can to make and keep connections.”
