Six undergraduate students have been awarded for their hard work in the Department of Applied Engineering, Safety & Technology and in the Department of Art and Design.
As a packaging engineering technology student, senior Kaylena Travitz had the opportunity to apply for the J. Richard Troll Memorial Scholarship Fund by the Association of Independent Corrugated Converters. Every year, the trustees of the fund award scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate students majoring in packaging engineering or a similar packaging field. This year, Travitz was awarded the $1,000 scholarship.
Travitz says she is excited to receive the scholarship. “I was beyond thrilled to be awarded the J. Richard Troll Memorial Scholarship. To be recognized for my dedication and hard work in the packaging arena was an unexpected surprise.”
One specific professor has supported Travitz throughout her college career. “I am very thankful for the help from all of my professors, but especially Dr. Mark Snyder as he has supported my professional growth at Millersville University.” Snyder also aided Travitz in securing an internship at Buckeye Corrugated Inc. in Lancaster where she gained more knowledge of the field.
Five other Millersville University students were selected to receive scholarships from the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation, the printing industry’s largest scholarship program. The foundation awards scholarships annually to students in graphic communication related fields. This year, the foundation received over 600 applications.
The Millersville recipients span over three different majors including technology and engineering education, graphic communication and graphic design. Between Aleia Baker, Joshua Evans, Julia Meassick, Reagan Steinberg and Lauren Walsh the awards totaled over $17,000.
Travitz explains that Millersville supported her as she expanded into the industry. “Millersville gave me a stepping stone to branching into this industry as I have been learning more about packaging and marketing” “I recommend getting to know you professors and classmates and to join clubs that support your major because networking really helped me.”
