ESPN Data Analytics Consultant Headlines Brossman Lecture

The speaker is an applied mathematician and frequently works in data analytics with a specialty in sports analytics.

The 36th Annual Brossman Foundation and Ronald E. Frisbie Sr. Science Lectureship Program will return for the first time since 2019 on October 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Biemesderfer Concert Hall in the Winter Visual & Performing Arts Center. Dr. Tim Chartier, professor of mathematics and computer science at Davidson College will be the keynote speaker.

The program includes a competitive examination for high school sophomore, junior and senior science, mathematics and technology students; laboratory demonstrations; a special afternoon lecture for selected elementary and middle school students; and an evening presentation by Chartier.

During his presentation, Chartier will discuss outlooks that help with successful analytics and the variety of questions that can be answered. Attendees will learn how to get in the game as sports analysts.

Chartier is an applied mathematician with a focus in computer science and frequently works in data analytics with a specialty in sports analytics. He’s worked with teams in the NBA, NFL and NASCAR, as well as fielding questions from ESPN and “The New York Times.” He also directs and works with a team of as many as 100 student researchers to provide analytics to Davidson College sports teams. His authorship, research and scholarship have been recognized with national leadership positions in the Mathematical Association of America and multiple awards, including an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, The MAA’s SE Distinguished Teaching Award and the MAA’s Euler Book Award.
