This fall nine sets of twins started as first-year students at Millersville University. Dr. David Henriques, assistant professor, chair and director of Academic Advisement & Student Development, says that’s unusual. “Although there are no official statistics, I believe this is the largest number of twins starting simultaneously.”
We talked with two sets of twins. First up Cory and Jacob Engle from Shillington, Pennsylvania in Berks County. Both of them are majoring in Applied Engineering with a concentration in Advanced Manufacturing.

Q. Do you plan on joining any clubs or playing any sports?
In high school my brother and I both did Pole Vaulting, however Millersville currently doesn’t have a boys track team, so we are hoping to start a club to pole vault and we also enjoy playing volleyball.
Q. Did your sibling’s decision to come to MU affect your decision to come to MU?
No, we looked at a lot of colleges and both agreed Millersville had everything we were looking for except pole vaulting.
Q. Are you rooming with your sibling?
Yes, at least for the first year.
Q. What are you most looking forward to at college?
I am looking forward to meeting new people and the engineering classes. is really excited about the engineering club where you build a Baja Buggy and get to race it.

Q. Do you plan on joining any clubs or playing any sports?

Our next set of twins features Owen and Patrick Hoffman from Atglen, Pennsylvania. They both entered Millersville as Exploratory majors.

Q. Do you plan on joining any clubs or playing any sports?
I’m sure I’m going to join clubs; I love doing new things especially and love talking to people. I love music, and making my own music too, so if there’s anything like music writing and recording, I’m totally doing it. I also love basketball a lot, so I’m going to do anything I can related to basketball that I can do. If there are any pickup games, I got first on.
Q. Did your sibling’s decision to come to MU affect your decision to come to MU?
Oh, 100%. Wherever he was going to go I was too, we’ve been living together for 18 years, so we’re going to go through this together, just like everything else we’ve gone through.
Q. Will you be rooming with your sibling?
I wish, my parents would NEVER let us, like ever. So, no.
Q. What are you most looking forward to at college?
I can’t wait to meet new people, again, I love talking to people, so making new friends is going to be sick.
Patrick Hoffman
Q. Do you plan on joining any clubs or playing any sports?
I want to try out for the basketball team since I love the sport and play whenever I get the chance. I play on the street with my friends almost every week and have done multiple competitive leagues. If I don’t make the team, I plan on playing recreationally.
Q. Did your sibling’s decision to come to MU affect your decision to come to MU?
My sibling’s decision to come to MU definitely influenced mine. We both toured the campus and loved it. We talked after about it and both decided we wanted to go to the same university no matter what, and we thought MU was perfect for both of us. We liked the look of everything we saw and realized that we should stick together.
Q. Will you be rooming with your sibling?
As much as I would like to room with my sibling, my parents decided it would be best not to. They wanted us to meet new people and friends, so they said no. We were trying to work it out where we were roommates, but honestly, they would’ve found out so easily it would’ve not worked out.
Q. What are you most looking forward to at college?
I am looking forward to everything, but mostly seeing what it’s like to live in the dorm, away from my parents. I am curious to see what that sense of freedom will look like. The food is also getting me very excited too.
