Always Remember – 9/11 Event Planned for Campus

The 9/11 event is open to the public and is being held in honor of all of those citizens and responders who lost their lives.

“No day shall erase you from the memory of time” –
Sandy Dahl, wife of Flight 93 pilot Jason Dahl, who died in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, on September 11, 2001.

To honor the life of Jason Dahl and the thousands of others who died, the Millersville Chapter of the International Association of Emergency Managers, MU-IAEM, will hold its second annual 9/11 event on campus.

MU-IAEM president and event organizer Wyatt Peters says the event will be held on Sept. 11 on the Quad on campus at 11 a.m. There will be a brief ceremony followed by a one-mile walk commemorating the steps taken by firefighters and responders walking the towers. The walk will end at the pond.

While many students at Millersville weren’t even born when 9/11 happened, Duane Hagelgans, professor of emergency management at Millersville, says they need to know the details. “It’s especially important that they understand one of the most important days in our nation’s history. It’s important for society as a whole to remember 9/11. If we forget and lose sight of what happened, not only could it happen again, but all those lives will have been lost in vain.  Our students need to understand that not since December 1941 was our nation attacked on this scale by a foreign enemy.  We must always remain vigilant and alert.”

The 9/11 event is open to the public and is being held in honor of all of those citizens and responders who lost their lives. T-shirts will be given out to attendees.
