The Annual Summer Science Training Program sponsored by the Millersville University College of Science and Technology returns with two unique sessions this summer. The two five-day sessions of science and math workshops will be held during the weeks of June 27 – July 1 and July 11 – 15. The programs are open to students entering grades 8 – 12.
“Our week-long sessions provide workshops offering ‘next-level’ exposure and application in the STEM fields,” says Dr. Ryan Wagner, associate professor and chair of the biology department.
Two distinct five-day sessions of science and math workshops will be taught for different age groups, with each consisting of 10 topics that fall under the STEM umbrella. SSTP provides participants with learning opportunities that are not typically available at the pre-college level. The sessions will cover a wide range of academic disciplines with a focus on intensive student-teacher interaction, advanced learning, research and problem-solving.
During each session, students will be engaged in hands-on activities during three-hour workshops from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and participants will use fully-equipped labs and classroom facilities in Millersville University’s Science and Technology complex.
“The MU SSTP program is committed to providing an accessible, dynamic, and hands-on experience for students interested in learning more about the sciences,” says Wagner.
Students can register for a session that is appropriate for their skill level, based on their grade as of fall 2022. It is recommended that students entering 8th or 9th grade register for Session 1, while students entering 10th – 12th grades, or who have completed Session 1, register for Session 2.
Registration is $250 per student and will cover supplies and instructional costs. The deadline to register is when sessions reach 24 participants.
