What are you thankful for? Professors, students respond

As Thanksgiving approaches, some of our students, faculty and staff at Millersville University shared what they are grateful for. Check out what they had to say!

“I am thankful that despite every obstacle we have faced this semester, we have made it through safely.  Eighteen months ago, no one knew where we would be this fall, but the strength of the community coming together to keep everyone safe is a testament to our EPPIIC values. Let’s all be thankful to our family and friends who have been there for us throughout these trying times.  I want to thank each of you for all you do and continue to do for Millersville University.” – Dr. Daniel A. Wubah, president of Millersville University.

“I am thankful for the community we have at Millersville University. I have always felt that I have a solid support system here and know that I would not be where I am without it. I have had the opportunity to meet so many influential people while at MU and could not be more grateful.” – Madison Whitcomb, student trustee.

“I’m thankful for having the opportunity to work with all the meteorology students through my position as Weather Information Center Director. Nothing is more fulfilling than to be back at my old stomping grounds having landed my dream job, helping students apply the difficult concepts they learn in class to operational weather forecasting. I’m grateful for being able to help improve both the campus community’s and public’s awareness of and response to high-impact weather events, thus protecting more lives and property, through collaboration with the MU StormReady Research Team. I want to thank God for granting me with this incredible opportunity and my family and friends for supporting me in both my educational and professional career.” – Kyle Elliott, director of the Weather Information Center

“I am thankful for life, for love, and for good labor. As a poet once said, ‘Count all your blessings and remember your dreams.’ I still do.” – Dr. Dennis B. Downey, professor emeritus of history.

“I am grateful that the year that began with an insurrection has settled into ho-hum routine (most of the time).” Dr. Greg Siegworth, professor in the communication and theatre department.

“I am very grateful to be able to spend time with family and friends again. Simple activities are more meaningful. And on campus, it’s terrific to be back in the labs and classrooms with students. We made the best of it in the virtual space, but grateful to be back on campus and all together again.” Dr. Stacey Irwin, professor in the communication and theatre department.

“I’m thankful for my friends, my family and the mystery of Puma Punku.” Sascha Skucek, adjunct professor in the English department.

“I believe life is beautiful and a truly exciting adventure despite its challenges. Choosing to be grateful allows us to be happy. This year, I am grateful to be surrounded with great people at Millersville University; all students, faculty, and staff members have a special place in my heart. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express gratitude, and I am thankful for having my caring family, kind-hearted friends, hardworking students, and amazing colleagues.” Dr. Behrooz Etesamipour, assistant professor of information technology.
