Career Resources for Students and Alumni

Through Handshake, students can access employer contacts, schedule one-on-one appointments with ELCM and register for job fairs and related events.

In March of last year Experiential Learning and Career Management at Millersville University quickly adapted to make sure that the services it provides for students continued despite the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the challenges this past year has brought, ELCM staff members have been working remotely, including organizing virtual employer information sessions and a job and internship fair held each semester. They also hold an annual graduate school fair in the fall that features over 70 graduate schools and programs in attendance.

“ELCM strives to meet the needs of our students,” said associate director Margo Sassaman, “so we are excited to share that moving forward, our services, programs, events and fairs will be offered as a blend of in-person and virtually.”

With a recent move to Handshake, a career management platform, ELCM gives students the opportunity to learn more about the platform while further developing their career skills. Through Handshake, students can access employer contacts, schedule one-on-one appointments with ELCM and register for job fairs and related events.

Sassaman offers this advice for Millersville students: “Take advantage of all the services offered by ELCM… Do not wait until you graduate to learn how ELCM can assist you in identifying your career path and connecting with employers and graduate schools.”

ELCM oversees student-centered career programs including career services, internships, mentorships and volunteering opportunities. These programs assist students in finding experiences in their field and learning how to develop professional assets like resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles and more.

Internships and mentorships that students find through ELCM provide hands-on opportunities for students in their respective fields. ELCM collaborates with various employers and academic departments to help students attain real-world experience under the guidance of professionals.

Additionally, its website offers a specific page titled “Career Resources During COVID-19,” which includes information about one-on-one appointments and a multitude of career advice videos.
