Drop a Swan to Save the Pond

Swan Drop Spectacle to Restore the Iconic Pond During Homecoming Festivities.

Best known for its resident swans, the pond at Millersville University is an iconic landmark for alumni, staff, faculty and students. This year, Millersville’s development staff is launching its first Swan Drop fundraiser to raise money for necessary restoration of the pond.

“The pond holds many fond memories for students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the University. Keeping it looking beautiful is an important job,” says Katelynn Hartman, assistant director of annual giving at Millersville University.

The Swan Drop is a fundraising event that will raise money for necessary restoration and repairs of Millersville’s pond. When students, faculty and community members donate toward the restoration effort, they will receive a rubber swan that will be dropped from a crane onto a target during Millersville’s Homecoming festivities. Participants will have an opportunity to win prizes based on where their rubber swan falls. Prizes will include University swag and access to exclusive virtual events.

“The Swan Drop was designed to help raise funds for this effort, but also to inspire people to come back to campus for Homecoming,” says Hartman. “I hope that this event will bring people together, get them excited about campus again after a year of having to be away due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and raise some critical funds as well.”

Gift levels range from $10 for one swan, to $1,855 for a memorial paver and 20 swans. The paver options provide donors with the opportunity to permanently memorialize their gift and express the impact Millersville has made on them. The bricks and pavers will include an inscription, and be installed around the pond at the University. To learn more about the Swan Drop event or to make a donation, visit https://secure.qgiv.com/event/prsd/.
