College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Introduces Advisory Board

New board, which consists of six Millersville alumni, will advise dean of AHSS.

The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Millersville University now has an advisory board.  The board, which consists of six Millersville alumni and a community member, will advise AHSS Dean Dr. Ieva Zake on several different aspects of the College.

At their first meeting, held in March, members discussed the mission and vision of the board.  Zake explains that the board will continue to meet to create and maintain partnerships with community members and organizations. She also says, “Boards of this nature typically support educational institutions by recommending potential partners or even helping build connections to student internship providers, employers and donors. These connections give students the opportunity to benefit themselves both educationally and professionally. They also enrich the various academic programs the college offers.”

The members of the board will each bring their own unique professional experience to the board. Zake says the diversity in their careers is reflective of the choices that students of the college have to look forward to after graduating.

Megan Mercier is one of the board members. She graduated from Millersville in 2001 with a bachelor’s in art and a minor in history. She currently works as director of Alumni and Volunteer Engagement at Skidmore College. Mercier says she was honored to be asked to join the board and is excited to start creating University partnerships in the community. Her passion for alumni relations started with her time here at Millersville, where she was a student leader of the MU Student Ambassadors and an intern in the development office. Mercier adds, “Millersville University is a special place because of all of the faculty, staff, students, parents and alumni that make it such a vibrant community. I’m lucky that I’ve made it my profession here in Upstate New York and I’m happy to still be connected to my alma mater.”
