2021 Holocaust Conference Features Dr. Martin Dean

The 2021 Millersville University Conference on the Holocaust and Genocide will feature Dr. Martin Dean.

The 2021 Millersville University Conference on the Holocaust and Genocide will feature Dr. Martin Dean as the P. Alan and Linda Loss keynote speaker. Throughout the event, Dean will examine the landscape of Babyn Yar on the basis of new research into the infamous massacre. The lecture will serve in remembrance of the 80th anniversary of the Babyn Yar massacre that took place in 1941. The virtual conference will take place on April 8, 2021 at 12 p.m. on Zoom.

Throughout the presentation, Dean will examine the location of Babyn Yar. He will use ground and aerial photographs together with testimonies from witnesses and images from a 3D model to trace the final steps taken September 29-30, 1941.

After receiving his Ph.D. in European History from Queens’ College in Cambridge in 1989, Dean served as applied research scholar for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum from 1998 to 2016. He has written several publications focusing on Jewish history and the Holocaust. He currently serves as a historical researcher for the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center.

For over 30 years, Millersville University has held the Conference on the Holocaust and Genocide. Each year, it features events addressing the issues of the Holocaust and genocide from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. The purpose of the conference is to remember those impacted through genocide.
