Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader and pioneer for equality during the 20th century. Millersville University will honor him the week of Jan. 18, 2021, in various ways.
The University will observe a moment of remembrance at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, as the University’s Old Main Bell in the Alumni Bell Court tolls 39 times, symbolic of the number of years of Dr. King’s life.
As a way to remember, the Dr. Rita Smith-Wade-El Intercultural Center gave away MLK celebration packages for students. The package includes a t-shirt and other mementos to honor the life and legacy of MLK.
In addition to the packages, MU will show the documentary “John Lewis: Good Trouble.” The film is an account of the late U.S. Representative John Lewis’ life, legacy and activism. It focuses on his journey from a teenage-activist in the Civil Rights movement to working in government. The MU community can access the film from Jan. 18 – 22. The 33rd annual community-wide Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast held by the Crispus Attucks Community Center will be held virtually this year. The event will is scheduled Jan. 18 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. This year’s theme is “Where do we go from here: chaos or community?” and is inspired by Dr. King’s final book.
