If you don’t personally know Steven DiGuiseppe, you have probably been impacted by something he has done as a member of the Millersville University community. DiGuiseppe began his career with Millersville University as a student, graduating in 1982, and is now retiring as assistant vice president of Advancement.
DiGuiseppe discovered his love for MU after his brother began attending the University, “I joined my brother at MU in the fall of 1978 as a freshman and I later graduated in 1982 with a B.S.Ed. degree in Elementary Education. I loved all my undergraduate days and wanted more of MU. Shortly after graduating from MU, I became more active with the Alumni Association and served in several volunteer leadership board of director positions, which gave me an insight into the advancement world, while I was working at TV Guide Magazine as an assistant regional editor.”
In 1991 he was offered the position of Alumni Services Director.
“I have met and worked with thousands of people – this is no exaggeration—that have shaped my life in a most wonderful way. Meeting alumni from all different class years and backgrounds was inspiring, fun and awesome,” DiGuiseppe says of his first role at Millersville. He then went on to share his other accomplishments over his many years of service, “I have worked on hundreds of special projects, programs and reports, served as a major gift officer, wrote numerous grants and proposals, served as the lead external relations staff member with the Millersville Borough Council, the Millersville Business Association, the Manor Township Board, The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce Solanco/Penn Manor Consortium, served as the University’s Agency Open Records/Right to Know Officer and chaired the Millersville Parade initiative.”
DiGuiseppe played a large role in launching many initiatives over the course of his time at MU including MU After Work, the Fifth Quarter Reception at Homecoming, the MU Athletic Hall of Fame, MU Destinations and PASSHE Alumni and Friends Travel Programs, the African-American/Latino Alumni Scholarship and Mentoring Programs, as well as the African-American/Latino Alumni Reunion, Luau by the Lake/Senior Send-off, Ville Idol, Homecoming concerts/entertainers, the alumni online community and website, the regional alumni network, alumni legacy events, Jazz and Java, Alum from Day 1, GOLD: Graduates of the Last Decade, the Millersville Parade and the establishment of several new alumni and student awards and scholarships.
But DiGuiseppe’s work did not stop with his job responsibilities, he shares, “I have volunteered with the community, through my affiliation with MU and co-chaired Millersville’s 250th Anniversary, the Millersville Veterans Memorial Project and currently serve as the interim president for the Millersville Business Association.” DiGuiseppe has also worked with the Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity, MU Student Government Association and the MU Student Ambassadors, chaired the University Homecoming and University Calendar Committees and served on the MEDAL Fund Scholarship Board.
Over the past 45 years DiGuiseppe has been involved in an array of major events, clubs, organizations and more which impacted students, faculty and alumni alike. DiGuiseppe shares how his time at MU has impacted him, “Reflecting upon my 45-year relationship with MU, to coin a phrase from a famous entertainer, Bob Hope, ‘Thanks for the memories.’ There are too many people to publicly acknowledge here who have shaped my life. I’ve enjoyed the smiles, the laughter, the tears of joy, the dinners, the quiet moments, the meetings, the concerts, the diverse peoples – even financial reports. It was a great ride and now this chapter comes to a close. There are still ‘miles to go’ and I wish Millersville well for the future, wherever it may take them.”
DiGuiseppe will officially retire September 25. He has established the Steven A. DiGuiseppe ’82 Scholarship at Millersville University to support future generations of students.
