Professor Wallace Honored for Work in Forensic Life Sciences

Forensic science has been a lifelong journey for Millersville University’s Dr. John Wallace.

Forensic science has been a lifelong journey for Millersville University’s (MU) Dr. John Wallace. In February 2020, he received the Award for Achievement in Forensic Life Sciences in Pathology/Biology section from the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) at the organization’s 72nd Annual Scientific Meeting in Anaheim, California.

AAFS is a multidisciplinary professional organization that provides leadership to advance science and its application to the legal system. Wallace has been a member since 2001 and a fellow since 2006. To be a fellow, one has to be actively engaged in the field of forensic sciences and has made a significant contribution to the literature of forensic science. A fellow also has contributed significantly to the AAFS by attending meetings and participating in the program.

The award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions throughout their career in the field of forensic sciences. Wallace has contributed over 35 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, books and videos to the research literature of forensic entomology and wildlife forensic sciences. He also co-founded the North American Forensic Entomology Association (NAFEA).

“Well, with any recognition one earns over a lifetime, it is more than the accolades of publications, grants, workshops and courses accomplished over this time, it is the journey, the people I’ve met, the friends and research colleagues I have accumulated and enjoyed learning from,” says Wallace. “Most of all it is the legacy of teaching the future forensic entomologists that I recognize more than anything.”

Congratulations, Dr. Wallace. You’ve always just “done your work and kept your head down” for your students and for the field of forensic biology. And along the way, people have taken notice.

Congratulations on the Achievement Award from AAFS John! You have clearly had a constructive influence on countless students and colleagues through the quality, and variety, of contributions to your field. Truly a well-deserved honor.
