Head Start Heads into New Semester

MU’s Head Start program still has openings for this classroom experience.

Since mid-October, renovations have been in the works to turn Bard Hall into an innovative Head Start STEM classroom. With a focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, this classroom provides a creative outlet for children aged three to five to learn from a school readiness program.

Offered to children of Millersville University (MU) students whose gross income is within 100 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, this program was created through a partnership between MU, the Community Action Partnership (CAP), Eurofins, The Steinman Foundation and High Foundation. The classroom is now officially open.

“Class is currently being held in Bard Hall in a temporary room until late March when the grand opening is scheduled,” said Mindy Jones, a home visitor specialist for Lancaster Head Start.

MU’s Head Start program still has openings for this classroom experience, and is also accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. and include breakfast and lunch daily. Other benefits include health and developmental screenings as well as comprehensive family services.

Interested parties my contact Mindy Jones at mjones@caplanc.org, or 717-299-7388 ext. 3066. (Please note: Students must be turning three or four by September 1 in order to be eligible).
