Snoop Dogg to President Obama

“A Life in Physics” comes to Millersville.

World-renowned physicist Dr. Sylvester James Gates Jr. will be the keynote speaker at the 34th Annual Brossman Foundation and Ronald E. Frisbie Sr. Science Lectureship Program event on Nov. 15 at Millersville University (MU).

Gates presentation, titled “A Life in Physics: Spanning from Snoop Dogg to President Obama,” will cover his time serving on President Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), along with other topics. The keynote will begin at 6:30. There will also be a pre-lecture dinner for faculty, invited guests and registered program participants at 5:15 p.m.

Gates holds two B.S degrees in mathematics and physics, as well as a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Gates also serves as a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.

Throughout the day students will be able to meet with Gates, as well as take part in laboratory demonstrations, examination prep and a special afternoon lecture for elementary and middle school students.

Sponsored by the University and the Mr. and Mrs. Brossman Charitable Foundation, the program gives students at various levels that are focused on math, science and technology a first-hand opportunity to experience these field up close.
