Abbey Ford is new Student Rep to Millersville Borough

Millersville University junior Abbey Ford has been selected  to serve as the new student representative to the Millersville Borough. Some of the duties Ford will have in this position include attending all the borough council meetings and providing student input and advice to the council.

“I am looking forward to my new role as the student representative to the borough and I am hoping to continue to build the strong relationship between the University and the borough,” says Ford. “Since students of the University live, work and play within the borough limits, it is important to consider the views of the students. Whether someone is a freshmen on campus or a retired couple living in the borough, we are all neighbors and united through that fact. What happens to someone in a community affects the whole of that community so it is imperative that we are all on the same page and can collaborate or problem solve together in an effective manner.”

Ford was first made aware of the Millersville Borough Council when she became the vice president of Advocacy & Outreach for the Student Government Association. As vice president, one of her duties is to attend all the borough council meetings to keep up to date on what is occurring within the borough.

Ford works on campus in the Office of Sustainability and was named the 2017-2018 Student Sustainability Champion award winner. Ford is also interning with a congressional campaign. In addition, she is a member of the University’s Walker Fellowship Program, which is a branch of the Center for Civic Responsibility and Leadership.

Ford is a dual major in Government & Political Affairs and Political Economics. She plans to graduate in the spring of 2020.

Ford is originally from the Pittsburgh area, but after graduation, she hopes to stay in the Lancaster area and work as a community organizer or for a non-profit.

“I have a vested interest in the success of this community. I am most excited about further integrating myself into the community and affecting positive change,” says Ford.
