Isabela Scordo is a Millersville student set to graduate in the fall of 2027. She is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in entertainment technology and an additional undergraduate degree in K-12 art education, as well as a minor in English. Over the summer break, Isabela completed an internship with Servant Stage, which is the only pay-what-you-will theatre in Lancaster County.
Scordo was the charge scenic artist for the kid’s theatre camp shows. A charge scene artist is someone who paints set pieces, backdrops, props and more for theatre, films, television or any other sort of production. “Depending on the production and that production budget, there can be a whole team of artists or just one. Scordo says that she accepted a role as an unpaid intern, taking the internship for college credit. She then earned a special financial award through the Career Center that provides financial help to qualified Millersville students working as interns for nonprofit organizations or government agencies.
Servant Stage was a wonderful experience, Scordo says. “The experiences and professional connections I got through Servant Stage were worth the time commitment over the summer.” She continued that she would recommend this as an internship, specifically for those interested in scenic carpentry, painting, and arts. “Entertainment technology can be applied to a vast array of different professions,” she shares. Scordo used her internship as an opportunity to hone her craft in scenic work for the shows.
Some of the shows that Scordo helped with were the mainstage production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, “and a variety of kids’ shows that included “The Drowsy Chaperone Jr,” “Mary Poppins Jr,” “Bye Bye Birdie” (youth edition) and “High School Musical Jr.”
