Student’s Exhibit Allows Viewers to Gain Perspective of Black American Experience

The reception for “Reclaiming Our Narrative: History, Identity and Liberation” is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m., Dec. 3, with an artist talk at 6 p.m.

Morgan Scott of Lancaster, a fine arts major and the 2025-2026 College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Fellow at Millersville University, is exhibiting her work at the University’s Swift Gallery, Breidenstine Hall, from Nov. 21 through Dec. 12. The reception for “Reclaiming Our Narrative: History, Identity and Liberation” is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m., Dec. 3, with an artist talk at 6 p.m. Swift Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and events are open to the public free of charge.

“Reclaiming Our Narrative: History, Identity, and Liberation” is a collection of works consisting of various media, allowing the viewers to gain a perspective of the Black American experience in different aspects. Scott relies on historical context and narrative storytelling to bring forth and challenge socioeconomic and other issues related to race and classism.

Scott is a Baltimore-born metalsmith and sculptor who is working through her Bachelor of Fine Arts as well as a minor in advanced manufacturing. Her works have been exhibited in the Millersville Annual Juried Exhibition, where she received the Best of Metals award (2023); she won the same award the following year (2024), and in 2025, she received the Third Place Award. Scott was also exhibited in the 2025 Emerging Visions: An Undergraduate Showcase, where she was awarded Best in Show. Her intaglio print “We Will Fight Till Hell Freezes Over, Then We Will Fight on Ice” won Millersville’s Annie Tunis Summy – Print Award, presented to the student in printmaking class who has produced the best print.
