Events During Black Heritage Month

Millersville will hold events on campus and at the Ware Center for Black Heritage Month.

February is Black History Month, also known as Black Heritage Month. To educate and inform Millersville University’s community, there are scheduled events throughout the month.

Millersville will hold events on campus for students, faculty, staff and the community. They include:

Saturday, Feb. 15 – Black Excellence Ball (Students Only):

8 a.m. – 11 p.m. – Multipurpose room of the SMC. The Black Excellence Ball is an annual event that empowers and recognizes the Black community. The event will include music, art, awards, food, history and more. No tickets are required.

Thursday, Feb. 27 – Carter G. Woodson Lecture:

7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. – Multipurpose room of the SMC. Dr. Yasser Payne is leading the discussion on “What Difference Could a Reparations Fund Addressing Racial Inequities Make in Our Community?” The lecture is free and open to the public.

On Feb. 7, Debra Ann Byrd presents “Becoming Othello: A Black Girl’s Journey”:

From Feb. 7 – Mar. 28, the Ware Center’s Regitz Gallery, “Ain’t I a Woman?” by Wanawake:

This will be open to the public to explore themes of resilience, strength and creativity of women, drawing inspiration from their shared history and individual journeys. More information is available here: https://bit.ly/3PWAlHX

On Feb. 22, Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents “New Orleans Songbook”:
