For the second time in the last three years, the Millersville University student section of the American Society of Safety Professionals was named the prestigious organization’s Outstanding Student Section of the Year.
When evaluating chapters for the award, the ASSP stated that the Millersville student section “reported strong results in all three critical requirements — professional development, research, and campus and community involvement. The award committee pointed to the group’s strong technical meetings with diverse topics, content and presenters, along with great engagement with the parent chapter and ASSP Foundation. The section’s dedication to professional development was also a factor in its selection for top honors.”
The students and their faculty advisor, Dr. Betty Jo Bowers, will receive $5,000 from the organization to fund future research and scholarships.
The Millersville ASSP Student Section Board Members include:
- Olivia Rozenberg, Senior, President
- Naomi DeLuca, Senior., VP
- Sean Harris, Senior, Treasurer
- Sabrina Zimmerman, Junior., Secretary
- Saige Shine, Senior, Newsletter Editor & Historian
“The ASSP Student Section worked very hard to host several technical meetings, conduct and present research, and participate in several volunteer activities on campus and in the local community,” said Bowers regarding the student section’s effort and tenacity.
Student section president Olivia Rozenberg commented on the student section’s win, “The application took well over 30 hours to complete, and it was definitely worth the rewarding outcome. Between the support of my amazing executive board and the Occupational Safety and Health community in Lancaster, I received a lot of support. I am extremely proud of the direction this organization is going and can’t wait to serve my second term as president. I am looking forward to formally accepting the award at the Safety 2024 Conference on August 6th in Denver, Colorado!”
