SGA Names Persons of the Year

The Student Government Association at Millersville University has named the latest recipients of the Sarah Lindsley and Thomas Justin Baker Person of the Year Award: Alex Gomez and Josh Hartranft.

Alex Gomez, Student of the Year.

“The significance of this award is to highlight some of the exceptional people at Millersville University after everything they have done to benefit the community. It is a way for the campus to show its appreciation of these individuals,” says Leizel Schlott, president of SGA.

Each year, Millersville SGA names both a student and staff/faculty member to receive this distinct honor. “These recipients deserve this award because even with the struggles of this past year of the COVID-19 pandemic, they rose above and beyond working long hours to help their fellow Millersville family members,” says Schlott.

Alex Gomez was a graduate assistant with the Center for Disaster Research and Education. Gomez is also a dual degree Master of Social Work and Master of Emergency Management. Vice President Hazlett says, “Gomez is a recipient of the Person of the Year Award for his hard work and dedication to the health and safety of students on campus. While working as a graduate assistant for the Community Disaster Response Team, he also assisted in student-teaching for the Community Emergency Response Team and helped Health Services with on-campus COVID-19 testing. He is awarded this honor for his compassion and drive to help others at Millersville University.”

Josh Hartranft was named the staff/faculty member honoree. Hartranft serves on the Technical Support Services team at Millersville University. Hartranft has been awarded the Person of the Year Award for his resiliency this past year.

Vice President Hazlett says, “Despite the constant challenges of 2020 and 2021, Josh persevered and led his team to assist students, faculty and administration with technical problems ranging from Wi-Fi outages, access to laptops for at-home work, and regaining access to students’ and faculties’ accounts after the cyberattack. Josh Hartranft is a kind and determined figure on campus, working behind the scenes to help Millersville University run smoothly during this time of uncertainty.”
