Honoring Veterans in 2020

Millersville University thanks veterans today and everyday!

Each year, Veteran’s Day is observed on November 11, in the United States to honor military veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Although COVID-19 has canceled some of Millersville University’s annual events to honor veterans, the University is still striving to support those who have served.

The MU Veterans Resource Center is located at the Mercer House on 28-30 W Cottage Ave.

This year, to safely honor veterans who have served the U.S., MU’s Veterans Resource Center (VRC) has partnered with Student Services Inc. (SSI) to send each veteran a small thank you package to recognize their service on Veteran’s Day. Each of the packages will include small gifts and printed postcards. The University Store will also offer anyone with a military identification card a 10 percent discount on their purchases.

Additionally, local business Lancaster Cupcake will be offering MU veterans a free cupcake to honor them with their service.

The MU community features students, faculty and staff who have served in the United States Armed Forces. One of MU’s veterans include graduate student support specialist Lucie Lehr. Lehr served in the United States Air Force.

“I will spend Veteran’s Day reflecting on my service, and the service of those before and after me. All veterans deserve remembering,” says Lehr.

In addition to honoring military personnel on Veteran’s Day, MU has other resources available for those who have served. The MU Veterans Resource Center is located at the Mercer House on 28-30 W Cottage Ave, Millersville, PA 17551. The VRC provides resources for current, new or transfer students. The staff of the VRC serve as student veteran ambassadors to help any military student. Resources available include help with managing benefits, help if a student is called to duty and how to enroll in courses. Students can also find information regarding different scholarships, federal and state benefit programs and school certified benefit programs on the VRC’s website.

MU has also been recognized nationally for efforts to support military members. This past year, MU received the “gold” classification for being Military Friendly from Victory Media and it is the eighth year in a row that MU has been designated as a Military Friendly school. MU strives to provide support and service to military students through educational support.

Along with supporting veterans, MU offers admission programs with the Army, Army Reserve and Army National Guard. The University grants credits for military training based on the American Council on Educational Guides.
