PSAC Cancels Spring Athletic Competitions

“I’m heartbroken for our coaches and student-athletes.”

The following statement was released by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) on Friday, March 13

In light of the latest news regarding COVID-19, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) has announced that all athletic competition for the remainder of the spring semester has been canceled, effective immediately.

In addition, all countable related athletic activities (CARA) are suspended until March 30 at which time the Board of Directors will review a proposal from the Athletics Administrators to permit or suspend CARA for the remainder of the semester.

Any non-conference competitions already traveled to are left to the institutional discretion through March 15, at which time all athletic competition must cease.

Spring semester sports are canceled for the remainder of the season.

“We support the PSAC Board of Directors’ decision to prioritize the health and safety of our student-athletes and community,” said director of athletics Miles Gallagher. “Nevertheless, I’m heartbroken for our coaches and student-athletes. This serious public health crisis has stripped from them something love and worked so hard for. I feel for our seniors, and I want to thank them for everything they have done for Millersville University. To our Marauder Family, our students more than ever need your support during this challenging time. We will remain resilient and together as a family. Marauder Pride.”

Associate director of athletics for compliance and academics Larry Earnesty, in coordination with the coaching staffs, has put in place a plan to ensure that student-athletes have the available technology and academic assistance while taking online courses away from campus. Providing comparable academic support and advisement is a priority, especially during student-athletes no longer in a team setting. Additionally, Millersville University’s counseling services are currently operating under regular hours for those who may benefit from the guidance of mental health professionals during this time. Millersville’s athletic trainers are available to answer any questions related to the mental health referral process.
