Millersville University (MU) will celebrate the first “WIXQ Day,” an all-day celebration of the on-campus radio station, 91.7 WIXQ-FM. The event will take place throughout the day on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, coinciding with the station’s radio frequency. The day will feature multiple events that members of the Millersville Community can participate in.

Highlights of the day include an on-air proclamation of the celebration at 9:17 a.m. from the Mayor of Millersville, Richard Moriarty. WIXQ will sponsor a record sale from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the SMC Atrium. The sale will feature local record stores from Lancaster County. At 5 p.m. a charitable karaoke event open to all students will be held in Club De’Ville. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Music for Everyone, an organization that provides resources in support of music education. The final event of the day will be an exclusive interview with former MU student, Mariah Belgrod. Belgrod is a rising pop musician originally from Lancaster, Pa. and has recently been nominated for a 2018 iHeartRadio Award.

WIXQ’s Chief Announcer Shane Garcia helped organize this event.

“WIXQ Day aims to recognize our station’s history, our University and our core values of community and belonging for all to see, all on the day that coincides with our frequency of 91.7 FM” Garcia said. “For 51 years, WIXQ has served Millersville and Lancaster County as a free-format alternative to corporate radio. More importantly, it has provided a platform and a home for students as they grow and develop at Millersville University.”

91.7 FM WIXQ is Millersville University’s on-campus radio station. The club is open to all majors and is a fully operating radio station. More information can be found at www.917theville.com.
