Music Students Experienced Europe

Integrating lessons learned into classroom.

Over the summer, Drs. Barry Atticks and Christine Banks led a 14-day tour through Europe for nine Millersville University music students. Students were treated to a whirlwind exploration of European music, art, history and more through six countries including Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Iceland. The highlights of the trip included: Mozart’s music and life in Saltzburg; Venetian Arts in Italy; Holocaust study in Munich; political history in Berlin; and ecological experiences in Murren, Switzerland and Reykjavik, Iceland.

This experience enriched the lives of the students involved, but Atticks wants to infuse lessons from the trip into his classroom back at MU.

“I will integrate this experience in the classroom as we always discuss ways to understand people and other cultures. In our international field, one has to be able to relate and appreciate peers from other places around the world,” says Atticks.
