Judicial Affairs Renamed Student Conduct and Community Standards

Change reflects the student-focused mission.

Millersville University’s (MU) Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS), located in the Witmer Building, has changed its name from Judicial Affairs to better reflect the intended campus function of student development and to show the educational nature of the role of student conduct. “This change will help distinguish the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards from legal affairs and reflect its student-focused mission,” says Lori B. Austin, director of SCCS.

The professional national Association of Student Judicial Affairs changed its name to the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) in February 2008. The MU Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards name change was done to improve and update the office from the outdated name, Judicial Affairs, and so that students can better understand the intention of the office.

The SCCS is responsible for fostering student success and learning by balancing individual and community rights, while promoting a safe, student centered and inclusive community. Through teaching accountability and responsible citizenship, the student conduct process challenges students to think ethically and critically about their decision-making and their role within the campus community. The SCCS provides education on the student code of conduct, advocates for student’s rights, and upholds the community standards and values of MU.
