MU Names Dr. Ieva Zake New Dean
Millersville University has announced the appointment of Dr. Ieva Zake as Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences effective July 1, 2018.
Zake comes to Millersville from The College of New Jersey as the vice-provost where she oversaw faculty development, grants, instructional design and graduate and advancing education. Before her role as vice-provost, Zake served as a professor in the Department of Sociology, Coordinator of Women’s Studies and Honors programs and Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Science and Mathematics at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey.
Zake received her bachelor’s degree in philosophy at the University of Latvia, her master’s degree in women’s studies at Ohio State University and doctorate in sociology at University of Massachusetts, Amherst. As a teacher and a scholar, she works on the intersection of political and historical sociology, sociological theory and issues of immigration, nationalism and intellectuals.
Zake, who is originally from Latvia, will be relocating to Lancaster from New Jersey come July.
Award for Bell
Dr. Thomas P. Bell, Applied Engineering, Safety, and Technology, received the William J. Wilkinson Award for Meritorious Service from the International Technology and Engineering Education Association (ITEEA). The award was presented at the annual ITEEA conference held in Atlanta, Ga., April 12-14.
