This year’s Innovator in Residence at Millersville University is Ben Uyeda, an architect and entrepreneur focused on affordable and sustainable design. Uyeda will speak on campus Tuesday, Feb. 27 and Wednesday, Feb 28. He is the founder and creative director of HomeMade Modern and co-founder of ZeroEnergy Design, a multidisciplinary firm specializing in ecologically conscious housing.
Uydea’s first event, Trickle-Up Design, will take place Tuesday, Feb 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Memorial Center’s Reighard Multipurpose Room. He will discuss how designers and entrepreneurs can create large impact through small projects. The event is free and open to the public but tickets are suggested.
Students are also invited to discuss their ideas with Uydea in a one-on-one setting on Wednesday, Feb. 28 from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in McComsey 266. Uydea will also judge elevator pitches from students in the Slaugh Entrepreneurship minor and the winners will advance to the “Shark Tank” event that will take place later in the semester. The elevator pitches will take place in Ford Atrium, McComsey Hall at 7:30 p.m.
