Dr. McIlwaine Honored
On Dec. 20, Millersville University’s Council of Trustees (COT) approved the naming of the multipurpose room in Gordinier Dining Hall for Dr. William McIlwaine. Dr. Rich Frerichs read the Presidential Proclamation in his honor. The multipurpose room on the first floor is now officially the “Dr. William B. McIlwaine Multipurpose Room.”
McIlwaine is serving his 21st year as a member of the COT. At Millersville he was the first chair for the Department of Earth and Space Science, as well as the first director for grants and awards – developing proposals and requests that brought more than $1 million to the University. In addition, McIlwaine served as chair of the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education, as well as professor of science and emeritus professor of science for over 32 years. Before beginning his career in academia, McIllwaine served in the 80th Infantry Division during World War II, earning a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge and Four Theatre of Operation Stars.
