This year over 6,000 spectators are expected to line the two-mile stretch of George Street to “Celebrate Animation” at this year’s Millersville Community Parade. The parade, a joint venture of Millersville University and the community, will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 and feature over 2,300 participants including marching bands, inflatable characters, twirling groups, color guards and MU student organizations. A crowd favorite, the Phillie Phanatic, will also return this year. There will also be a dedication to Vietnam Veterans in the first division of the parade.
The parade is just one of the many events taking place during homecoming. The week will kick off after Fall Break on Wednesday, Oct. 11 with a comedy show at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Memorial Center Multipurpose Room (SMC MPR). Thursday night will be filled with Marauder Madness! including music, free food, raffle prizes, 3-Point shootout, a dunk contest and more. There will also be performances by Essence, Fusion, MU Dance Team and the Millersville Cheerleaders. These events are free with an MU ID. Pridefest will also take place during homecoming this year on Friday, Oct. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. Following Pridefest, students are encouraged to gather for a movie on the quad and a homecoming after-party headphone disco.
The Marauders football team will take on Lock Haven at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 in the homecoming football game. A Marauder Tailgate in the Luek Hall parking lot will precede the game and will feature inflatables, student performances, student organizations and an airbrush artist.
