Two Millersville students are participating in THIS

This semester, two Millersville University students are participating in The Harrisburg Internship Semester (THIS) program sponsored by Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. This program invites students from each of the State System universities the opportunity to work in different areas of the state government while receiving a full semester’s worth of credits.

Millersville students Melanie Donnelly and Hunter Dale Mengel are two of the 11 students participating this semester. Donnelly, a senior social work major, will be working in the office of state House Majority Leader Dave Reed, and Mengel, a senior history major and government and political affairs minor, will be working in the state preservation office of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. Donnelly and Mengel, as well as the other students participating, will also attend several academic seminars during their internship. Each student is required to do an individual research project to meet the requirements of the program in order to receive credits.

Since THIS began in 1989, more than 600 students have participated. The program was created for students to gain valuable insight into working for a state government at the policy-making level. Past interns have worked with different state agencies, offices of the governor, the speaker of the House of Representatives and the attorney general.
