Parade Volunteers Needed

175 Volunteers Need Homecoming Weekend

The Millersville Community Parade Committee, a joint effort of Millersville University and the surrounding Millersville community, is looking for volunteers for Saturday, October 14.  The Parade operations has dozens of positions available, including banner carriers, division assistants, inflatable costume characters, street corner crew and so much more.

The 21st annual Millersville Community Parade, scheduled for Saturday, October 14 during the University’s homecoming weekend, is an opportunity for you to give to the community in a memorable and enjoyable way.  We’re inviting our community friends, including and not limited to local residents, businesses, church groups, Rotary groups, women’s clubs, high school students, and Millersville University alumni, to participate in this parade that attracts 2000+ participants and over 6000 spectators.

The parade route is two miles in length beginning at Penn Manor High School and ending past MU’s Student Memorial Center on James Street.  Volunteers perform a variety of duties such as assisting with the line-up of entries, flag handlers, costumed characters, flyer distribution, supervising street intersections and answers questions of spectators.  Volunteer service times vary depending on assigned job, but the average time on October 14 should not exceed 4-5 hours in the morning.  Some positions require walking 2 miles.

All volunteers receive a free parade t-shirt, a free lunch after the parade, and the satisfaction of being a part of a special community event.  Mandatory instructional training will be held early morning on October 14 at the Penn Manor High School Cafeteria.

The parade requires nearly 175 volunteers to run smoothly.  This year’s parade is shaping up to be bigger than ever, so the need for a large number of volunteers is very important.  You can volunteer and bring a friend too! Please share this with your colleagues or groups you participate within the community or at work (must be over age 16).  To find more about this parade, visit www.parade.millersville.edu
