Contest to Capture LiveSafe at MU

Make LiveSafe Video – Win $2,500!

LiveSafe1When Millersville University adopted the LiveSafe application in 2015, campus safety was the focus. But now, that app could win both the University and its students $2,500.

LiveSafe, a free app that transforms smartphones into personal safety tools, is launching a video contest for students on college campuses across the nation. The challenge is to make a video that creatively captures how their school utilizes the LiveSafe app, and thus illustrates their college’s efforts to encourage safety on campus.

“Millersville is a special place. We look out for each other,” says Millersville University Police Chief Peter Anders. “I have seen the creative vision of our students and think we can shine over some of the big schools when it comes down to safety and fun at the ‘Ville.”

The winner of the contest, concluding on Nov. 30 at 5 p.m., will be determined based on which video received the most views on YouTube. A total of $5,000 is at stake, with $2,500 awarded to the winning student group and an additional $2,500 donated to their school’s campus safety department.

Millersville University’s use of the LiveSafe application — the first of the Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) schools — qualifies MU students to participate in this contest. More than 2,000 Millersville students have signed up for the LiveSafe app over the past year leading to 400 peer-to-peer virtual escorts between the hours of 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., 150 tips texted to University police and increased communication between students and campus police.

Students in need of actors for their video can again turn to MU Police Department. When questioned about their willingness to aid in the creation of these videos, Anders responded, “Absolutely! My staff and I have an ability to smile and be a bit silly, which I think would relate on video.”

There is no limit to the number of videos that can be submitted from a school. Students can work individually or in groups to create a clean and creative video that should be less than 90 seconds long.

Videos are submitted by posting to YouTube and then emailing the link to video@livesafemobile.com along with the first and last names of team members, email addresses of those involved and the college or university name. The subject line of the email should be Team Name + LiveSafe video entry.

Any other questions about the contest should be directed to video@livesafemobile.com.
