New Director of Housing and Residential Programs

Dr. Scott Helfrich has been named as the new director of housing and residential programs, as announced by Dr. Michelle Pérez, associate vice president of student affairs and enrollment management.

“I am grateful to the search committee and am delighted we have found someone with Dr. Helfrich’s credentials to lead our housing and residential learning initiatives,” says Pérez. “Dr. Helfrich will lead the department as they mentor, support and provide a high level of customer service to the residents and their families.”

As Millersville’s new director of housing and residential programs, Helfrich heads the development of the residential community, from administration to programs to students. His role involves budget oversight, resident retention, crisis intervention, faculty management and policy formation.

“I plan on sharing my expertise and leadership in residence life and student affairs to create an enriching and rewarding experience for both our students and employees. I am eager to collaborate with University colleagues to create a first-class housing and residence life program that influences recruitment, retention and meaningful student learning outcomes,” says Helfrich.

Dr  Scott Helfrich (2)Helfrich brings a wealth of experience to MU after more than 24 years at nine institutions. Much of that experience was gained during his role as a housing and residence life professional at the University of Pittsburg, Bloomsburg University and California University of Pennsylvania. The founder and managing partner of Student Life Consultants, an active member in the American College Personnel Association and an avid blogger, Helfrich’s diverse background shows a passion for student affairs.

“I am excited and grateful to be able to work with innovative and progressive faculty and staff that care about impacting the lives of our students,” says Helfrich.

Along with his wealth of experience, the new director received his bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Lock Haven University, his master’s degree in mental health counseling from Nova Southeastern University and his doctorate in higher education from Penn State University.

Helfrich recently relocated to Manor Township with his wife of 18 years and their three elementary- and middle school-aged children. He officially assumed his new position on July 11.
